this is an area where i have seen a lot of contradictory info,,,just like everything in this area. In his interview with Twofigh, Yunis says that the high percentage of complications show up in his office are open mesh complications…he says if you have placed mesh lap…your risks for complications are much lower — another article i saw said that lap mesh complications are more frequent and more catastrophic…is there any way to get any consensus in this forum???
All modern studies support superiority of laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair with mesh over open inguinal hernia repair.
Older studies show lower overall complications with laparoscopic approach but higher severity of complications when they occur, as they included injuries to bowel and major blood vessels, which are uncommon with the open approach.
