  • If an open tissue repair fails…

    Posted by HoleintheWall on August 24, 2020 at 6:31 pm

    Is it always a catastrophic failure, e.g. the sutures tear through the abdominal wall tissue and result in a larger hernia?

    What is a typical re-occurrence scenario with a standard sutured tissue repair? If one has an open tissue repair and feels a tear/twinge/sensation*n, is it best to have it evaluated and fixed prior to a re-occurrence?

    Thanks.

    @holeinthewall
    For inguinal hernias, recurrence is usually small.
    It should not be repaired is you only have twinges.
    Avoid smoking, coughing, constipation.
