The Shouldice repair is truly terrifying. Two really smart guys here went to the best shouldice surgeons in the world and got dubious results. I read that Dr Kang says the Shouldice repair is very invasive. His repair less so but who wants to travel all the way to Korea for surgery??????? I never thought hernia surgery could turn into such a nightmare. My local doc says in and out and back to life. But in this forum hernia surgery has taken over lives. Of the tissue repairs Kangs seems to be the most benign though there are guys here complaining of horrible post surgery pain – not being able to walk. And Kangs own statistics suggest nearly a 5th of his patients are still in pain a year later? This statement jack posted is particularly troubling – ‘In fact, most of the internal inguinal ring is occupied by the spermatic cord which contains the testicular vessels, lymphatics and sensitive nerves. So it is very difficult to close the internal inguinal ring securely without damaging the aforementioned sensitive structures.’ So if you go with a Kang repair —-it seems there is significant risk of damage to vital reproductive organs? Mike M says he woudl NEVER get a shouldice and chose Kang because he was afraid of damage to his manhood –yet kang himself suggests his repair may damage our manhood. I have been reading this forum ad nauseum –and i think it may be time to stop. Its just horror story after horror story.

Joe, read the liability waivers that surgeons ask you to read and sign. The lawyers drafting those documents ensure that most risks are outlined. Then compare those risks to the ongoing risks associated with your particular hernia (which might include death from strangulated gut or loss of a testicle during an emergency repair).

Surgery is always risky, whatever option you choose, the other option is no surgery but you will end up having it at some point most likely and the longer you leave it potentially the more complicated the surgery will become and the worser outcome

I got surgery 6 weeks after I first noticed the hernia and it’s still been a complete nightmare so far but as others have said its surgery not a back massage, I dont think its realistic at all to be recovered completely in a few weeks and the fact mesh can bite you in the arse even years down the road and destroy your life is what made me choose a tissue repair. Sure it’s a longer recovery but I dont have a 9cm x 5cm potential ticking time bomb piece of plastic inside me, Read the horror stories about open mesh there are just as many as tissue repairs

Pick your poison but its all poison, there is no perfect solution to an Inguinal hernia sadly, I really wish there was.

Yes for sure. this totally sucks Prevention was the answer. But now i am stuck. Doing a massive gut rearrangement with a scalpel seems equally horrific. The fact that you went to the best and still seem to have gotten hosed is downright terrifying, But its not just you. The Esteemed dr Koch butchered Baris. Some surgeon at shouldice butched watchful. Yunis has destroyed a few and the senile old fool Dr Brown sent a few to the cemetery with these safe tissue repairs. It seems like there are lots of mesh horror stories. But maybe its simply because there are vastly more mesh repairs than tissue. If people were getting lots of suchi rolls to go —the stories of shouldice butchery would be adding up. If i go tissue I guess Kang is the best way to go or desarda —but then you gotta fly to Fing korea. Its nuts

Looks at reviews from the Sholdice hospital, it’s not all bad news, the vast majority get a great result

I can walk pain free and in complete comfort with some socks under my testicles which takes the stretch off the genitofemoral nerve casued by the post surgery swelling fluid, when the swelling resolves I think I will be fine, this is what my Doctor has told Me and has seen it many times, his work could well be flawless and this is just by bodys short term reaction to the trauma of surgery hopefully.
