Why is there no one keeping track of the mesh once in individuals? In this day and age there should be a database in case of recalls (which there have been). I had a hernia repair over ten years ago, and all hospital and doctor records are destroyed. The legal time for keeping records is seven years. My question is during that time would anyone even look back to see what is put into patients? I had another two hernia surgeries recently and cannot get the hospital to give me the lot numbers for my future records.

Since there are doctors on this site, is this something us as patients need to be made aware of? Does the FDA have some sort of system in place? Or, is it all up to the doctors/hospitals to keep track?
