My daughter just turned 4. Six weeks ago fell 8 feet off playground equipment. Diagnosed with a concussion. Since the fall, she complains her belly hurts. She is a very carefree, adventurous child without anxiety. It Hurts most when we push on her navel, but she says it hurts all the time. She also strains to pass bowel movements, even though her bowels are soft and complete. She eats smaller portions of food and says her belly hurts. She has giant and frequent burps now, especially after eating. No one is willing to give her an imaging. The GI specialist agrees there is no bowel blockage and is treating her for possible acid using Zantac. Nothing has helped. I was wondering if you think this could be a hidden hernia. Any hel is greatly appreciated. We have seen a number of specialists and no one can find anything, yet everyone is willing to dismiss her even though she is in constant pain.

Thank you very much for the advice! I feel better knowing someone with your experience feels this isn’t a hernia. I will continue my search.

Possible hernia in 4 year old after trama?

    Thanks for posting.
There are a lot of reasons for abdominal pain after a fall. Depending on how she fell and on what, she may have had a bruising of her intestine. That can cause such symptoms. Sometimes it’s more than bruising and there is a crushing of the intestine. Other internal organs are also at risk for crushing, such as the pancreas, liver, spleen, kidney.
It all depends on the type of fall.
A CT scan would evaluate this nicely.
Hidden hernias are uncommon outside the groin area. If she has any belly button hernia, or abdominal wall hernia, she should have point tenderness over the area if you palpate it.
    I would seek a pediatric surgeon’s opinion.
