If I get in a certain position I get a terrible twist in my lower abdomen. It has happen for years but seems worse lately. It feels like something is caught and being pinched. I have suggested to several doctors that I must have a hernia. I am overweight and they can find anything protruding. I have had some imaging testing done for other pains and they don’t see anything there. I can’t imagine this pain being anything else than a hernia. How can I get the doctors to believe or is there some other test I can have?

GETTING DOCTORS TO BELIEVE YOU HAVE A HERNIA

I have the same issue on my right side. It hurts mainly when I do basic stretches. I have gone to my PCP, Gastroenterologist and had physical therapy for the pain. Any other suggestions of who can help resolve this problem?

    Thank you!!

Keep looking. Need to get second and third opinions if the pain is so much.

In situations that are not certain on exam, an ultrasound, MRI, or CT scan with a “valsalva” is often the best way to determine if there is a hernia present or not.

Your best bet is probably to meet with a hernia surgeon who has experience in this type of thing.

    Good luck.
