    Hello everyone,

Six weeks ago, I had surgery for a small umbilical hernia that appeared as a pea-sized bulge in my belly button. It probably occurred from weightlifting, which I do frequently.

I underwent the surgery in Germany at the LMU clinic. Prior to the procedure, I was assured that a direct stitch was the best choice and that I didn’t need a mesh. Additionally, I was informed that recurrence rates for patients like me (young and not overweight) are very low.

Now, after six weeks, I cautiously resumed gym activities, starting with light chest and shoulder presses (never exceeding 10 kilograms) and some accessory work. However, the day after, my hernia site is quite sore, and I feel mild pain, as if something might be damaged.

I’m interested in hearing about others’ experiences with direct stitch repairs, especially from weightlifters. I’ve heard discouraging claims that direct stitches don’t last for lifters.

    Looking forward to your replies!

How is your umbilical repair holding up now that its past a year? I know you said “pea size”, did they give you an actual measurement?
