Unidentified Autoimmune disease 6 months post inguinal hernia surgery with mesh.

Prior to developing my hernia, i was very active, going to gym at least 5 days a week. I jog for at least 30mins and lift weight for 45 mins. Unfortunately, i developed one sided inguinal hernia which causing me issues to jog. So i stopped then i sought a medical advice. After MRI scan, it was confirmed that i had an inguinal hernia on the right side.

I was oblivious about the mesh and was told it is safe! In May 2024 i had the surgery and was successful. A month later i started to have severe left abdominal pain, last for 2 months and gone away by its own. A months later i started to have asthmatic issues. I am asthmatic but was very controlled to a stage i forgot that i have asthma and rarely use my inhaler, maybe once a year and just one puff.

In Oct, i was dealing with strange allergic reaction and I was thinking it is the environment, maybe mold , pets and so own. I left the environment in Dec. Instead of getting better, the symptoms got progressively worse. In Jan, i was refereed by my GP to cancer pathway because my breathing problem and post-drip and nasal congestion.

I had HRCT scan, it showed a ground glass opacity and mild central airway thickening, thymic hyperplasia. then i was sent for MrI scan to confirm whether it is thymic hyperplasia or something else, it was confirmed it was thymic hyperplasia. I was told repeat my CT in April to monitor the GGo.

In Feb 2025, symptoms got worse, all the medications that my GP and respiratory team prescribed: Fostair-Dymista-cetirizine- omeprazole. No longer help. Extreme fatigue, feeling dizzy all the time, pain in my both legs and upper and lower back and shoulders.

I have lost weight and i have lack of appetite. I lost hair on my right leg. I barely could walk because of dyspnea and mucus stuck in my chest come out through throat clearing.

5 days ago i have been taken to hospital by ambulance, and they suspected autoimmune disease and refered me to rheumatologist.

I started to look back what has been different in my life, and then i thought that i only had a foreign body in my body.

I am wondering has anyone had such an issue to develop autoimmune disease after having Mesh implant. And the most important question is removing reverse it or not? I am considering to remove as soon as possible but i would like to hear your advices.

    You could save my life.

Thanks for reading my suffering journey post

I hope you get better. At this time there is no study or test that can prove whether the implant is the cause. Also, about 70% patients who have their implant removed to address implant illness will improve or cure, but that result is unpredictable.
