    Is there any consensus on which of the named non-mesh repairs has the lowest rate of recurrence and lowest rate of complications (e.g., nerve damage)?

    @drbrown which procedure would you recommend for an adult perfect weight with a small indirect inguinal hernia?

    @deeoeraclea
    The best repair depends on whether the hernia is direct or indirect and the health of the patient.
    For example, A Shouldice would be overkill for an indirect hernia in a teenager.
    And none of the repairs will work with an obese smoker.

    I believe that a Shouldice is considered the gold standard non mesh repair for inguinal hernia. It has a 50 year great track record.

    It has been argued here by some surgeons that a best repair depends on the type of hernia and the condition of the patient.
