No doubt this has been asked before, but after an open inguinal hernia repair with mesh, does the bulge actually disappear? Mine is average size, as far as I know (sometimes larger or smaller). I don’t quite see how a piece of mesh will make the bulge, which I’ve had for a couple of years, go away completely. Those who have had the surgery, did the bulge flatten out completely? Seems too good to be true. Thanks for any response.

I had open surgery about 15 months ago and the bulge is gone. There was a healing ridge under the incision for several months after the surgery, but that is also mostly gone now. The site of the incision and surrounding area feels harder to the touch than it used to, but there is no bulge.

I have a different kind of hernia than you but it seems a lot of folks have “healing ridges” post surgery. I’m no expert so I’m just sending you there to hear what other folks have said.
