Dr. Towfigh: are mesh removals reported
Dr. Towfigh, when a patient has mesh removal either due to something wrong with the mesh (meshoma, infection etc) or it’s removed Bc patient has serious pain symptoms-does the removing surgeon report this to some kind of registry?
How are all the mesh removals and patients going to secondary surgeons with pain symptoms post hernia repair being documented? -

There is no mandated registry or system in the US.
Of recent, the AHSQC was developed and those of us who are members, register any hernia procedures. See the stickie on our HomePage.
Not enough surgeons are enrolled in these registries, mostly because it’s extra work and not mandated.
