Genital branch laparoscopic neurectomy
Posted by Unknown Member on December 21, 2019 at 10:08 pmdrtowfigh What’s your opinion on a laparoscopic genital branch neurectomy ? What are the side effects ? ..does the psoas muscle weaken ?
My surgery report says the following.
Laparoscopic identification and neurectomy of the left genital branch of the genitofemoral nerve in the preperitoneal space

The genital nerve does not innervate the psoas muscle.
A neurectomy will decrease pain in the spermatic cord and testicle.
The genital nerve innervates the cremasteric muscle.
Bill Brown MDDrBrown Will that cause the cremaster muscle to lose functionality?

quote drtowfigh:Patients do well from lap neurectomy for the genitofemoral nerve.
all neurectomy have about 5% risk of neuroma.
drtowfigh Is that unresolvable if a neuroma occurs?

I have the same issues with GF nerve. Are there any reports of long term success with GF neurectomy laporscpoc done??

Depends on the indication.
If there is a neuroma or neuralgia (nerve pain) from the GFN then neurectomy will cure that.
The nerve runs over the muscle but is otherwise unrelated to the muscle. -
