Hi Dr. kang and any other surgeons that would like to weigh in. On a earlier post I mentioned the concept of herniosis-a 3 part stage of the development of a hernia. I found the article that mentions this and to me the big take away is that even though a hernia may not be in its final stage (i.e. Through the inguinal canal and thus maybe showing a bulge-a patient may be experiencing pain even though they don’t have a classic “hernia”. Yes.

Plenty of patients have clinically symptomatic hernias without developing a bulge.

They should be considered for an operation if the clinical history and exam supports it.
