I had laparoscopy surgery more then 3 years ago from a well known Hernia surgeon( seemingly well qualified)in San Diego.

He said I had a spigelian hernia from exam only .My tests showed nothing.

He did say there was a chance he would find nothing b ut he was pretty sure I had one.

When he went in there he said he didnt find anything.

Is there a way to miss a hernia in lapaoscopy?

I know I have a hernia and now I know I have another one at the surgery site incision.

Sometimes you just know what you have . There is no other feeling like your guts are in your muscles! I have every single symptom of hernias.

Im doing about the same . A bit worse since I strained myself a bit before the CT scan hoping hernias would show.

Jacklyn Parker called today to let me know nothing showed up on the CT scan and everything is “normal”.

So I am at the end of getting any help with my Kaiser insurance.

    Thanks for asking.

Your right side does seem slightly more swollen than the left.

Any updates on how you’re doing?

    Thanks Dr Towfigh

The area is on my right ,but that would be left side of picture. An inch or 2 from my belly button. You can see how taught the skin is compared to the rest of my wrinkled skin LOL.

Yes, it is possible to miss a hernia during laparoscopy, unless the peritoneum was take down and the fascia level itself was visualized.

Not sure where or what the picture is showing as there is no obvious Spigelian or incisional hernia seen. Perhaps point to the area?

Spigelian hernias are very difficult to see or palpate unless they are large.
