In need of third hernia repair?
First, past history. I had an umbilical hernia , open surgery, no mesh years ago. The second repair was done open surgery with mesh (same site). Now the hernia is maybe 2-3 inches to the right of my umbilical site. My hernia has been tender to the touch for two days. It has been tender to touch before but usuallly goes away in a day or two. Im afraid of a third repair. When does it all end??? I did go to a surgeon and scheduled a surgery when I went through a day or two of pain (mild). I cancelled when the pain gave way. That was a year ago. What are your thoughts on the matter? Of course the surgeon wants to do surgery, as thats how he makes his living.

Time to seek a specialist. This kind of cycle can keep repeating and you may end up with a larger hole each time.
Also, you need to be evaluated for risk factors for Hernia recurrence and get those addressed: nicotine use, cough, constipation, enlarged prostate, obesity…
