Inguinal hernia: 33 year old female patient- mesh?
My 33 year old sister was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia. The hospital suggests laparoscopic repair with mesh using the TEPP method. Would you recommend this method based on the fact that my sister wants to have children one day and problems during pregnancy and delivery could occur? What would be your recommendation? What is your experience here? Thank you very much for your kind advice.

I agree with Dr Goldstein. There have been no reports that I am aware with problems with pregnancy, delivery, or Csection after laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair. I would mention to the obstetrician that there is mesh there. And theoretically there can be problems (mesh infection). I review this with my female patients and still recommend it. Also, if thin female, I recommend lightweight mesh.

Inguinal hernia: 33 year old female patient- mesh?
I have had numerous patients have children after TEP repair, both C-section and vaginal deliveries and no problems that I know of. As long as her surgeon is experienced, she should do fine.
