    Hello All,
New to this forum… I am a 38 year old male, in good shape and have a direct inguinal hernia on the right side (discovered 8 months ago). I also have a congenital “simple” bulbar urethral stricture (8 french size). Does anyone know whether this significantly would increase my risk of urinary retention after hernia surgery? Would open or lap surgery, Mesh vs. Non-Mesh be more advantageous for my situation? The stricture has never really caused me any problems other than just a slightly slower urinary stream than normal.
Thanks in advance for all of your suggestions.

    Dear Sub.
No matter which operation is performed you will be at some risk for urinary retention.
Be sure that your surgeon knows. You may need a catheter for a few days.
    I prefer non mesh repairs.
    Best wishes.
