Is ProGrip the most optimal or preferred synthetic mesh?
Majority of surgeons in my area use either ProGrip of Bard 3D Max. I’m trying to decide which one is the more favorable one.
It seems like ProGrip has several advantages over like Bard 3D Max. For instance, less time to place, no fixation, available to use in both Open and Laparascopic fashion, 40% of its material weight dissolves due to polyactic acid so less foreign body sensation?
However, I have read that because it’s polyester (although a polypropylene version exists), that it may exhibit more inflammation/reactions and is more prone to infections? I know all mesh induce inflammation but I suppose the key is to minimize the potential.
I also commonly see Bard lawsuits but I assume it’s because such polypropylene has been used more in general? I would also assume due to number differences, polyester mesh is removed much less after implantation.
What are truly the pros and cons of each? What is the general consensus here for the most optimal synthetic mesh?
