Lap removal vs open cut when mesh was implanted laparoscopic
I am in a debate with someone. I was told by several surgeons that if hernia mesh was placed laparoscopic, it should be removed the same way; less damage. They are saying I am wrong. The plastic will melt into your body causing more issues. I would appreciate anyone with knowledge about this, responding. Thank you.

Thank ypu so much, Dr. Towfigh. She got the melting comment from an article she read. It didn’t make sense to me. My son had lap removal of inguinal hernia mesh in 2015 when he was 18. I went by the advice lap in, lap out. I felt it made sense. I believe you were one of the surgeons who had explained that to me. Sadly, sometimes in the mesh groups, incorrect information is given.

You are absolutely correct. If you have a surgeon with thebexpertise to remove mesh laparoscopically, then that is the preferred method: less recovery, less scar, less pain, better outcome.
I have nothing to say about the mesh melting comment. It has no basis in fact or truth.
