Had robotic large indirect right inguinal hernia with extension into the scrotum repair over 6 weeks ago. No pain or problems. Feeling with my fingers deeply into the repaired right side while lying down I can feel a firmed area low & behind the testicles on the right side. Compared to the left side which is soft. Nothing is felt above the base of the penis. When I am standing & walking it seems to disappear. I am wondering if I am feeling the repaired hernia behind the non tension opening & ProGrip mesh? Is this to be expected?
the area where your hernia used to be is now empty. in simple terms: body doesn’t like empty space. either fluid, blood, or both will fill the area before the body scars the area down.
Thank you Dr Towfigh. Do not think it was filling space as hernia the size of a small cantaloupe went into the scrotum. That has never filled what I can fell is deep into the body at base of penis & behind the scrotum which remains soft.
