I have a small, right inguinal hernia that needs repair, and I’m looking for highly recommended, experienced, skilled surgeons to consider. I live in upstate New York, but am willing to travel. I’m not new to hernia surgery or post surgery pain complications, having had a poorly done, small left inguinal in 2006 (with mesh and a plug!!) that required removal and redo in 2008. That feels like a very long time ago in the history of awareness and knowledge about post surgery pain complications and surgical techniques. That first surgery should have been simple and routine (a small hernia, and I was and still am trim and reasonably fi)t, but it was botched by a local, community-hospital generalist recommended by my GP. At the time I, and many others, including many in the medical community, didn’t know any better. Before deciding on how to approach the removal/redo surgery I did a ton of research in medical journals and on discussion boards. I also consulted with numerous well known surgeons when the the second surgery took a very long time to settle down (to something workable but not perfect). I met, for example, with Dr. Bruce Ramshaw (great!) and corresponded with Dr. Towfigh (great!) and others, wishing I’d known initially what I knew by the end of all that. At this point, I need to find someone to do this small right inguinal hernia repair who knows the field well and has a lot of experience doing effective hernia surgeries with great outcomes. I’m not wed to a particular approach or mesh vs no mesh, although I’m very aware of the research and debates and the many things that should usually be avoided (heavy mesh, plugs, certain locations of mesh and staples, etc. etc.). Does anyone have recommendations of surgeons in or near to the area described? I’m also willing to travel further, if necessary… I’m 68 now and would like to get this one right… Thank you so much for any help!

Thank you to both Dr. Towfigh and localCivilian… I’m comparing Drs. jacobs and Novitksy now, as these names come up consistently in a variety of searches. Wondering if one is preferred over the other. I can get an appointment with Dr. Jacobs sooner that Novitsky and live 4.5 hours from NYC.
