Looking for surgeon experienced with Spigelian hernias
I am looking for a surgeon near Portland, OR experienced in repairing recurrent Spigelian hernias. I was diagnosed by the Army with a left upper quadrant Spigelian hernia about 10 yrs ago. I have had 3 surgeries thus far attempting to repair it. The first surgery (in approx 2007) was laproscopic & the surgeon was unable to locate the hernia. The second surgery (in approx 2010) located the hernia, diagnosed it as Spigelian, & installed mesh to repair it. However, after completing the recovery period & being allowed to resume full activity, I felt the hernia “pop” again the first time I did pushups at PT. Since then, it has resumed pre-repair behavior & felt like it may have enlarged as well. After getting out of the Army, I had a third surgery (in approx 2014) with a civilian surgeon at OHSU. During the surgery, the surgeon discovered that part of the previously installed mesh had come undone & reattached it, hoping that would resolve the issue. However, once again, after recovery & upon resumption of full normal physical activity, my hernia “popped” again. I had originally intended to just live it, but it is giving me difficulties ever more frequently as the years pass & I no longer think that’s a viable option. Because of the rarity of Spigelian hernias & the past surgeries & reoccurrences, I would prefer to see someone this time who specializes in or is at least experienced with Spigelian hernias. I am a 46 (nearly 47) yr old woman who smokes. (I am trying to quit smoking, but have been unsuccessful so far.)
Can you recommend anyone?
