I had inguinal hernia surgery in 2018. I now have low pain in scrotum and inguinal area. I discussed an MRI with Valsalva to review for hernia and any muscle-related issues (sports hernia).

    – MRI Pelvis Without Contrast and With Contrast with Valsalva
    – CPT Code 72198

When I looked this code up, it says it’s an MRA/MRV examining blood vessel type items. I have copy of MRI Protocols from Hernia Talk Forum, but it doesn’t list a CPT code.

    Is this code right?

    Dear Txman.
More important than the Cpt code is to be sure that the radiologist and the XRay technician know what you are looking for. A marker can be placed on the skin over the site of your pain so that extra images can be taken at that site.
    Regards.
