Need help in diagnosing hidden hernia
Having groin pain since November 2014. Burning sharp pain in labia while standing/walking for long time, bending over, lifting objects, climbing stairs and no pain while lying down. Consulted gyno, ortho and General surgeon. Did ultrasound ,pelvic x Ray and ct scan. Everything is normal. Gyno said the pain is in my mind. And I read ur article in nytimes about hidden hernia in women. And I suspect that it could be hidden hernia since my symptoms match. So I asked the surgeon to check for hernia. He did cough impulse and said he couldn’t find any hernia. I expressed my concern that I want to know the reason for the pain since I am trying to get pregnant. So he ordered ct scan and he says nothing showed up. Now husband also thinks that the pain is in my mind. But I know the pain is real. I am really worried.I want to get it diagnosed since I am trying to get pregnant. Please help me. Can u pls suggest hernia specialist(diagnosing hidden hernia in women) near St. Louis ,MO area.
Ur article in nytimes is an eyeopener for many suffering with this hidden culprit.. Thank you so much.. Also why the doctors don’t think of hernia in women though our symptoms exactly match with that. Also they should be able to find the hidden ones. I wish I am in Calif to meet you.

But my pain is getting increased. Need your help to give me some other doctor name around
st louis or any other city near to st louis. My other option is to come to LA to visit you but not sure about how much it would cost since my insurance does not cover. Thank you!!! -

Thank you for your help. I am so grateful for your help. I tried reaching out to Dr. Brunt and looks like he is pretty much occupied till June. Since I am having lot of pain, could you please suggest any other doctor around Missouri state or even any city closer to St.Louis would be great. Thank you again for helping me!!!

Yes, hernias are either a notable bulge, an area in the groin painful to touch, or sometimes both. It’s not uncommon for women to have the pain without the bulge. This is because the hernia defect is smaller than in men and also the examination is more difficult and not as direct.
Pain can be at the labia or radiate into the vagina. This is typically one-sided. CT scan is not a definitive study. My research and others have shown that MRI pelvis should be performed if there is a clinical suspicion for an occult hidden inguinal hernia.
Definitely your pain is real and not in your head. The plan should be to find out why you have the pain and get it treated.

Do hernia cause pain when we touch the area ? The pain increases if I apply pressure. Could this be related to hernia ?
