Nerve cutting in IHR
I am wondering, I have read in other posts that in pure tissue repairs sometimes the nerve(s) are cut (to what extent I still do not understand): is this also the case with open mesh repairs?or only some of them? if it is so this would be a strong indication for laparoscopy then….

If the nerves are the source of significant pain before the operation, then a neurectomy may provide significant relief.
If you are having a mesh hernia repair, then some surgeons cut the nerve to prevent the nerve from being scarred to the mesh.
For pure tissue repair, there is usually no reason to cut the nerve.

Thanks for your answer! Are there situations when this is warranted or it just cannot be avoided somehow?

The nerves are not routinely cut with pure tissue repair.
