One surgery for bilateral hernia and fistula possible?
Hi all,
Long time lurker, first time thread opener.
I have been diagnosted two years ago with a bilateral hernia and decided to opt for watchful weighting while looking for a no mesh option (living in the UK).
Last winter I had a pretty large abscess which popped but left me with a fistula-in-ano that keeps bothering me.
Now when I walk I feel front pain from my two hernias and back pain from my fistula and I am only 30 years old. So this is no way to live a life and I decided to go for surgery for both of my problems.
The question is: can a surgeon operate in one surgery both the bilateral hernias (will probably go for mesh since I live in the UK) and the fistula-in-ano?
Is the recovery for the two types of surgeries similar enough so that they can be combined?
Is it in general good practice to combine surgeries?Thank you for your time and opinions.
