  • Pain in hernia repair site before bowel movements

I had a ventral hernia repaired “successfully” in July. Since then I have not had any problems with the repair. However, recently (over the last two months), I’ve noticed that occasionally (especially during periods where my bowels are inflamed or I am having looser stool) I will notice a dull pain at or around the site of the hernia repair prior to having a bowel movement. There is also no noticeable bulge or protrusion at the hernia site. The pain is relatively short in duration and is not exceptionally painful (4-5/10 on the pain scale) and there is no pain during the actual movement. I suffer from an autoimmune disease which does cause me to have diarrhea from time to time so the bowel issues are not a change from baseline. I am wondering whether this is something to be concerned about or whether it is a pretty common occurrence given there is scar tissue in that area.

Of note, I did have to undergo a month long steroid taper beginning in late september and ending in late october. I assume this is not of consquence as the area seemed to be primarily healed by then.

    Thanks!
