Possibly infected mesh
Hello, had a left side inguinal hernia repaired June 2022. Developed a seroma.
Drained nov 2022. Then drained Feb 2023, and seroma got infected.
The repair area feels hot. Um guessing that the seroma touched the mesh.
There are articles about salvaging mesh using iv antibiotics and antimicrobial irrigations.
Has anyone been successful in this type of treatment?

Your almost a year out, seromas are drained or settle down with 2 months or less. Get your op report, get an ultrasound, CT scan or MRI. Seromas don’t touch mesh it’s fluid built up by the mesh cause some are polypropylene the worst, some polyester still sucks. Hernia surgery especially with mesh is no joke and you have a foreign body in your body that shrinks, migrates, causes horrible inflammation etc. Get your op report to know what type of mesh etc cause it is better ti get problems solved quicker than later.

Infection is usually in the first couple months and seromas are common but depending on the surgeon. Always look up and deal with a hernia specialist not a general surgeon cause that’s where 9 out of 10 mess up. The groin is the most complex part of the the human anatomy! Most likely inflammation which with your description sounds like it. Get your op reports and look for a hernia specialist.

Need imaging and operative report to identify type of mesh, where it is placed, and relationship of seroma to mesh.
This determines treatment. If it’s infected seroma, that needs its own treatment. If the mesh is infected, most likely needs mesh removal but sometimes, depending on consequences, it can be salvaged.
A specialist with experience treating mesh infections can help.
