I had bilateral open inguinal hernia repair 3 weeks ago. Still sore and gets painful when I stand etc. pain migrates quite low. .. Labia. How long can this last. And on day 4 post surgery I stretched my back. Could I have caused this long recovery? Most literature says it’s good to move around.

Allow about 6 weeks. If pain not better, have it re-evaluated. Also, make sure a recurrence of your femoral hernia was not missed.

I did have mesh implanted. Hernia on right wasn’t typical according to my surgeon. More like a weak spot? Looked more typical on the ultrasound. I have had pain when standing in my back groin hip for 6 yrs. very soon after a difficult hysterectomy when the hernia was found I was happy something may be the cause. Also had bilateral femoral hernias as a teenager ..lucky me. Appendix out at 8 yrs old. My guess is a lot of surgical adhesions. Left side hernia found as a fluke .. Not overly symptomatic except with certain exercises. I am very slim and fit. Decided to do both to avoid 2nd general anaesthetic. So… I have been steadily taking pain meds but feel the old pain in the right trying to come back. Sorry for the novel but any insight would be great. Only wish I lived in calfornia.

Very good to move around after hernia repair.
Did you have mesh implanted? What were your symptoms prior to surgery?
Recovery after open repair on both sides is longer than when it’s done individually.
