Hi, just joined, great forum – have read many of the posts and hope to get some insight/help:

I had 2 laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair surgeries with mesh. The first in 2009 and the second one month ago. The first was a double repair, post surgery I had pain/discomfort/pressure in my right groin (with some numbness down my leg) for years. Second surgery repaired recurrent hernia on the right side – old mesh was found rolled up some, not all removed. Felt good for a week, then same symptoms as pre surgery – pain/discomfort/pressure in my right groin and numbness down my leg. Took advil some improvement but still restricted, e.g. getting out of a chair or driving can trigger discomfort (as was the case prior to the surgery).

Is it too early for diagnostics to see what is going on? Would be more inclined to wait and see if symptoms were not same as pre-surgery.

I have read the various posts on mesh removal (open vs. closed, risks etc.), if I am a candidate would like to investigate mesh removal and non-mesh repair. What is the optimal window time-wise to have this surgery when new mesh recently inserted?

    Thanks in advance.

Many thanks Dr. Towfigh. I will see if I might find someone here and I am also trying to free up a few days on my end to come to CA and have consult with you at your office.

Hard to evaluate an operated groin with Ultrasound. My choice is straight to MRI.

In MA, check out Dr David Earle, Peter Lydon, Stephen Ferzoco, George Velmahos. And also check out the site http://americanherniasociety.org/find-a-hernia-specialist/

Thank you Dr. Towfigh. Would an MRI or an US be the better diagnostic?

Also, I am wondering if anyone knows of a good Dr in Boston?

Not too early to get imaging and be re evaluated.
