When Surgery Is Dangerous
Unfortunately, hernia surgery is not always an option if we have a pre-existing condition that makes surgery much more risky than for other, normal individuals. I personally fall into this high risk cohort, because of a rare idiopathic immune condition involving my white blood cells, specifically, the mast cells.
What precisely is an individual to do that finds themself in this situation? There are no easy answers when it comes to risking surgery. My personal decision has been to take the watchful waiting approach with my inguinal hernia.
Why Watchful Waiting?
This isn’t my first rodeo. In 2013 I had inguinal hernias on my right, and left sides. I elected to travel to Vegas, not for the gambling, but for a no mesh surgery repair. I learned the hard way, post op, that I was allergic to the various pain killers I received during, and after surgery. I spent three days vomiting, and other things I will refrain from going into detail about. My wife was prepared to take me to the ER, when the reaction finally ceased on the third day.
Practical Solutions
I have no intention of having a defeatist attitude while enduring my hernia. I have four young boys. Two of them are toddlers, and still need to be held. I also work hard on our 5 acre spread. This has lead me to begin a two pronged journey, and I invite those of you that can’t risk surgery, or have decided on watchful waiting with your doctor, to follow me here, and on my other social media platforms.
The first prong of my mission was to find a good truss. I located a truss I can work in comfortably. I was going to design my own, but found a gentlemen that had already done the work for me. I’m not paid by him, or anyone else. I reviewed the products on the market, recalling how much pain other trusses caused me when I was waiting for my surgery, and knew I couldn’t endure that pain again. In short, I was on a mission to find a superior truss for active people like me. I am wearing that truss as I write this, and am not in any pain.
The second prong of my mission has yet to be accomplished, but I think it might be possible, despite the overwhelming odds. I’m hoping to cure my hernia without surgery. I know what the medical industry says this is not possible, but I also know nothing is impossible with God from experience.
Twenty years ago my father had quad by-pass surgery. His arteries were 99% blocked. He should have died from a heart attack. He did not exercise, and his diet was not the best in the world. Despite that, do you know what the doctors found when they opened up my father’s chest? He had grown a new artery. His body preformed it’s own bypass. Nothing is impossible with God!
I invite you to follow me, and pray for me as I attempt to heal my hernia naturally. I have a strategy in mind, and will gradually be releasing videos as I move through the process. If I am successful, God Willing, I hope the content I produce helps a great many people.
