My dad’s had a hernia for 4 or 5 years. He carries and lifts and it doesn’t seem to bother him but I worry it will get incarcerated. He is 90, never had it repaired. He saw my hernia and said his was much larger. But at 90 the surgery could be hard going for him.

Do you recall how old your dad was when he had the repair Watchful?
Might age and activity have something to do with it?

All sounds good cpk. Thanks. It’s these reports that help others decide.
What happens if Dr Kang finds a complication whilst another patient is prepped and ready?

Is Dr Kang really over 60? I thought he was late 50s?
Wish I looked as good!
I must have had a hard, hard life! You’re right Chuck, it would be a shame if no one took over from Dr. Kang senior and the Kang repair no longer existed.
How is the FB group going? I’m not on FB myself but something access it via my fathers, he’s like Dr Kang in that…[Read more]

Just seen one person who had non mesh by Simon Bailey had a recurrence about 7 months later. May have had a 2nd repeat non mesh repair but in the end went for mesh.
This may be an isolated case. Only other patient article I’ve seen about Simon Bailey was mesh removal and that was brilliant praise and success.

I believe British hernia centre does mainly mesh but one surgeon there did do do tissue repair, Martin Kurzer using Desarda. Scartersville who posted on here consulte with him and it was Martin Kurzer who suggested a German surgeon instead.
You may find a bit more about bhc by searching Scarletville old posts.
I didn’t realise Martin kurzer…[Read more]

Was it mesh repair or tissue? And how long ago was repair? It may still just be settling down.

Thanks Roger, appreciate the update. I can’t remember where you went from. Which country.
It takes a long time for things to settle after surgery/treatment it sounds all is going well.
I had niggles for about a year after a lump (not hernia) was removed from my stomach. I kept thinking it can’t still be op, but I think it was.

You could try emailing and asking these people who offer yoga and exercise for hernia. They do say avoid certain exercises
It’s quite an interesting read in any case.

Thanks Pinto for summarising and, in language, I can understand!!!
And to Good Intentions for the find.
I have read before that existing chronic pain seems to or can influence post operative chronic pain. However, I’ve read quite a few articles about hernia mesh injured who say the hernia didn’t even trouble them that much prior. So it can’t be…[Read more]

I agree with you AJM, I think it takes longer with tissue repairs to recover. And it does sound as though Watchful’s pain improves as each day goes by. I think I read Desarda cash take 2 years to come to full strength.

Another possible UK non mesh surgeon
Simon Marsh of 108 Harley Street, think this is Shouldice based repair but in cases of “large” hernias a mesh plug is placed.Anyone have any more information on this surgeon at all?

Hello Watchful, it sounds as though you’re continuing to improve, reading through the lines, I hope so and good news if so.
Pain after surgery does longer for quite a time even with less serious surgeries.
Also I recently burnt myself quite badly, and although recovering, I get sporadic pain over a month later. During periods of burn pain. I did…[Read more]

Thanks Good Intentions. Don’t suppose anyone knows which surgeons follow these ‘rules’ re leaving nerves.
I think the Germans resect but not sure what that means!
