Expert input on hernia mesh complications 8 years post rih with PHSL(Ethicon) and how to get my doctors to look at what I see on the imaging. They have fragile egos around here and get offended by knowledgeable patients. I tried to share what I thought to be relevant input about imaging modalities and the visibility of the mesh I have inside of me. They simply ignored the input, wrote on their report that I was “attempting to dictate my own care”. Then asked me to drink a large cup of contrast when I was unable to swallow for the entire day, and informed them repeatedly. When I couldn’t drink it, they reported it as “refusing to drink”. After 7 or 8 members of the staff insisted I drink it, and I was unable to comply, they told me “Drink it or I will sign you out against medical advice”, I informed her she didn’t have that authority as I didn’t ask to leave, just for help. She then called security and kicked me out.

Almost 2 years later and my chronic constipation continues to be ignored by all doctors, as well as chronic infection and chronic abdominal pain for close to 2 years. I just want to get fixed. The highest likelihood is complications from prior surgery,  as it is my only medical history. Last time I was at a Dr was for follow up after the mesh implant. No issues for 8 years, then 2 hours to pass bowel increasing as high as 10 hours, before moving on to having to “hover” over the bowl to go, and finally 4 consecutive months of standing to defecate.

  1. The problem is extremely obvious, but continues to be dismissed by the surgeons. I just saw a surgeon after my Dr. felt many subcutaneous nodules at the prior surgical site. Although the nodules were and are blatantly obvious, he denied the existence of any lesions, and ordered another CT scan with oral barium contrast using ICD-10 codes acknowledging the prior surgery but indicating there are no complications. Partial small bowel obstruction was diagnosed in Florida, WBC have been consistently high, as well as monocytes, and occasionally granulocytes. There is a laundry list of other symptoms and occurrences to go with these.  I only want to get fixed.
