Good intentions replied to the topic Tissue repairs – what is the truth in the forum Hernia Discussion 1 week, 2 days ago
The EHS Guidelines were critiqued after they were introduced five years ago and the analysis process was shown to be flawed. According to the EHS’s own web page ten chapters are being “updated” but they do not tell which chapters. How can any chapter be trusted? There seems to be some sort of problem, maybe a disagreement, about what the…[Read more]

What are the details of your original diagnosis and what type of activities to you plan in the future? What type of work do you do? You are simplifying everything down to three words: hernia, mesh, non-mesh. That won’t work well for making a decision.
” I live in Laguna Niguel and was recently found to have an inguinal hernia.”

I had a thought about the accusation of fraud, above. All medical systems tend to be huge bureaucracies. While what Baris described seems unusual it looks like the effect was to get Baris in to surgery earlier than expected and to reduce costs for both Dr. and patient. Without the details it’s hard to know what the real purpose was, or even if…[Read more]

One way it can be done is to redefine the words used. Pain becomes discomfort. Or if the word “chronic” is not used by the patient it’s not chronic pain. It’s a disingenuous way to promote a certain view. Or to just not take calls from patients, or to let the front office take all of the calls. Plausible deniability. Another way would be to…[Read more]

In your first post you said that Dr. Harris would do mesh under local. That would be an open procedure. In the post above you said laparoscopic. So, it’s not clear what you heard from Dr. Harris.
As far as your last question, I would read the latest threads started by JHawley and Dconfused77. He/she has asked the same questions and received…[Read more]

I agree. That is a pretty serious claim to just throw on to a public internet forum with no source. Easy to get misled by somebody else’s internet memory.

I think that Dr. Harris is just promoting marketing literature from long ago that has been disproven. “Lightweight mesh”. He also says that he does lap surgery, which is what I remembered.
He is not doing anything special. Just common run-of-the-mill hernia repair. The odds will be the same as what the large studies…[Read more]

Ask Dr. Harris for the brand name and manufacturer of the mesh that he uses. If he won’t tell you that is not a good sign.
The lawsuits are real. People are being awarded millions of dollars. Any surgeon that says it’s all “hype” is avoiding reality. That’s not a good sign either.
Good luck.

Thanks Jack2021, those are some good references. It’s interesting that just a day of rest and a small amount of ibuprofen and things get back to normal.
I had had a thought in the past, over the years, that cycles or number of steps seemed to bring on soreness and odd sensations, more than exertion. Kind of counterintuitive for hernia concerns…[Read more]

The Shouldice Hospital is probably still training the “next generation”. There were rumors on the forum a year or two ago that the Hospital was moving or shutting down or changing somehow, and also some discussion that they were discovering much more chronic pain than expected but those things seemed to have petered out. Not sure what exactly is…[Read more]

Thanks Watchful. After taking a day off and resting, and taking one ibuprofren/Advil, the right groin pain has disappeared and other minor discomforts have crept in. I think I’ve just been overdoing it. I also think that my whole pelvic area is unbalanced after the multi-year process of mesh, mesh pain, mesh removal, mesh removal pain, etc.…[Read more]

All of the issues raised here can be answered by your surgeon. If you don’t trust your surgeon enough to believe that they won’t hand you off to an assistant then you should probably find a different surgeon. Of course, most people don’t ask too many questions or they get evasive answers when they do.
Thinking back to my initial mesh…[Read more]

How would a person seeking a surgeon evaluate the “fatigue factor”? The multi-persona person seems to go by gut feel. Can somebody suggest a number to use, some sort of break-point? Should a surgeon’s age be considered? Older people fatigue more easily.
The last statement in the post above, funnily enough, seems to have been written under…[Read more]

I’ve found that Pubmed is a good site to browse around on because they link similar articles to the one you’re looking at. I stumbled across the one below that seems like pretty clear gaslighting. Or just ignorance of what the goal of surgery is. People are not cattle or draft horses.
The authors are big names in the field. Chronic pain…[Read more]

Thanks David M. The take-away from your point seems to be “get an early surgery time”. Not sure that the “tired at the end of the day” really applies to the point I was making. I was talking about experience leading to precise knowledge.

Somebody posted something about irritation of a certain nerve causing pain on both left and right and maybe other areas. Does anyone recall it, or have a similar reference?
