I have been watchfully waiting since my direct inguinal hernia was diagnosed about 18 months ago. At that time, my hernia doc recommended getting with a physical therapist to put me on a program of core strengthening. I have been doing that since then, and my symptoms are definitely reduced.

There is a surgeon in my area who has been accredited as a “Master Surgeon in Hernia Surgery” by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) of Raleigh, NC. The SRC website says that “SRC is a nonprofit, patient safety organization that provides accreditations for surgical facilities and medical professionals.”

An MRI, using the procedure described by Dr. Towfigh, should tell you if you have an inguinal hernia, even if it is occult. It did for me.
