ejaculation pain after surgery
I just had a laparoscopic ( left ) inguinal hernia repair 17 days ago, I don’t have pain during Erection, but I get some pain during ejaculation & after orgazm, is that normal ? perhaps should I wait a little longer until the tissue heals before sex etc. Also, would there be a risk for a recurring hernia during masturbation or sex ? How much time is to be safe ? ….

UPDATE (my personal situation and experience):
My burning pain (like a stab in the nutts) during orgasm disappeared completely after 4 weeks (Thank God!). Testicles were swollen and sore for about 6 weeks. I did an ultrasound (6th week) and there’s still a little “liquid” in the testicles.
7th week: Sometimes, I feel a little bit disconfort in the inguinal area, but the testicular sore and swelling are much better, and the ejaculatory pain disappeared.I thought the pos-op was going to be much easier, it requires time and patience…

I am having the same issue. I am having pain during orgasm (inguinal hernia laparoscopic repair was 3 weeks ago). It lasts some seconds, but burns as hell in the inguinal area. It’s horrible!
Did other people get the same issue? For how long? -

The hernia itself does not anatomically affect sexual desire or function.
If you have pain at the hernia, that may indirectly affect your desire to has sex and/or orgasm. But it does not specifically prevent it.

I’m looking for news about sexuality in the presence of inguinal hernia. Here I find news about sexuality after surgery, but no mention of previous sexuality. If it is considered relevant, I would ask you what your sexuality was before. Especially at dr drtowfigh I would like to ask if the hernia can produce a decrease in sexual tension. I refer You about my personal case. I had a prostate hypertrophy with no loss of desire. Also my hernia did not give me any particular problems in the first three years. Lately, on the other hand, I often renounce to having sex for fear that comes out of strain…and because after that I feel tired and fatigued

In my opinion: a return of symptoms after a hernia repair done years ago is a hernia recurrence until proven otherwise. A good general hernia surgeon who may also be able to perform laparoscopic surgery, would be the best start.

Pain with ejaculation and orgasm may be related to mesh:vas deferens interface. It should resolve with time. If it doesn’t, see a specialist. Rarely, the mesh may need to be lifts off the spermatic cord.
Otherwise there is no correlation.
I had a similar experience to the OP. I had my inguinal repair with mesh 12 years ago, and I had pain during and after ejaculation for months after surgery. It took up to a full year before I stopped experiencing this. The episodes gradually decreased in duration and intensity over time. Recently however, about three months ago, I’ve started to have this post ejaculation pain again. Feels the same as it did back then. Dr. Towfigh, what exactly causes this? And what type of specialist would evaluate this? I know of a good general hernia surgeon.

Excuse my ignorance and audacity to ask this but you tried to self satisfy or have sex just 17 days after surgery? Erection should happen NEXT day after surgery if nerves are intact and surgeon is good but having sex in 17 days? Simply because you have an erection does not indicate a wide open invitation to have sex or self satisfy.
The best would be to wait 6 full weeks until everything heals. Having sex or self satisfaction after 17 days is stupid and foolish. And if you are hurt yes why not? If I were the surgeon, I would lose my temper on you for this act. 17 days is too early. The Standard rule is 6 weeks. Yeah, do not tell me what other people did and what Google is showing. SIX WEEKS. Period.

It’s described in the thread that you posted in Ric. In the posts above yours. Yes, some people do have this pain after mesh implantation. For some it resolves over time, for others it does not.
Three weeks is still early. I don’t think that you will find a surgeon who would do any type of exploratory surgery to see what is happening. Wait and hope is the path forward. Good luck.
