Seeds of change. Will they grow? Teaching non-mesh hernia repair techniques
Apparently the topic of going back, however slightly, to non-mesh repairs, is being discussed. But as you can see, apparently, the methods aren’t even typically taught anymore. They seem to be curiosities from the past.
We can hope to get focus back on the patient’s welfare but the proof will be when we see more new surgeons, or even established surgeons, offering it.

While I don't disagree with the premise that tissue-based repair can be adequate, current trainees rarely see a tissue repair outside of tiny umbilical hernias. The only consistent experience for us is the @CUDeptSurg Global Surgery Course and that's a one-time cadaver experience
