    Hello,

I had open inguinal hernia mesh surgery 8 weeks ago. I had gotten to the point where I had no pain at my scar sight. I lterally felt 100 pct. I was back to lifting weights and had no pain at all while working out. sooooo last week I coughed and I felt a tug at the scar. It wasn’t even a hard cough. I just coughed normally. Now I have a minor burny stabby pain at the scar site basically right above the base of my penis. I feel it more while standing and just certain ways I turn I feel a minor tug that makes me wince slightly. It is not a constant pain. I do not have a lump. I went back to the doctor on Monday and he said he also said I don’t have a lump, but the mesh could have migrated or it could be nerve pain. He said to come back in 2 weeks for an MRI if the pain doesn’t go away. I fail to believe I have a recurrence. Does this sound like scar tissue pain? I did everything by the book. I can not have a recurrence!!!!!! Thanks for your help.

It might help to describe the type of material and method used for the “open” repair. There are many. Onstep, PHS, Licthenstein…they’re all called “open” but actually very different in how much material is used and where it’s placed.

Good luck. There is a bodybuilding forum out there on the internet with a very long hernia repair thread. You might find specific information there.
