Hernia repair
Hi I’ve recently had my epigasteic hernia repaired it was an emergency operation as was strangulated but lucky no bowel just fat they stitched but no mesh but now 7 weeks later my inside feels so bizarre almost hard to explain its as though something is pushing down the hernia repaired side of my body I also have a numb leg (opposite side to hernia )which burns so much at night can any one help or had the same? X

Agree with Dr Brown.
There are no nerves to injure in an epigastric hernia repair, which is way up above your belly button in the upper abdomen.
Not sure why you would have leg issues from the hernia repair unless weird positioning from the operation or a blood clot in the leg.

If you can not see your surgeon, then going to your GP is a reasonable choice.
Try to get a copy of the operative report.

Thank you it’s difficult to see my surgeon as was done on the nhs.do I try to see my gp and go from there?i don’t understand why it still hurts and am petrified it’s going to come back through the stitching is this likely?i no it’s sounds ridiculous for asking but my after care was not great and I was sent away not really knowing anything about afterwards and what to expect

Follow up with your surgeon. You should be feeling better by now. A CT scan of the abdomen may help.
The numbness of the leg is not directly related to the epigastric hernia repair. There are not major nerves near an epigastric hernia.
If the numbness started directly after the operation, then the leg may have been positioned incorrectly during the operation. Again see your surgeon. He or she can determine which nerve is involved and start treatment.

Will nerve damage heal? Feels like my inside has an annoying discomfort that won’t go could any one say what nerve may have been damaged?

Hi it was open surgery incarcerated sorry just looked at consultant notes.what do I do it’s worrying me as Xmas next week and I live in fear I’ll never feel normal again!

Was it an open procedure or laparoscopic? It sounds like some nerves might have been damaged during surgery.
If it was just fat in the defect then I don’t think “strangulation” was happening. Maybe they assumed it was because of your pain.
