Statistics on mesh inflamation, allergic reaction.
Does anyone have any statistics on the percentage in Inguinal hernia patients that have had a chronic or long term allergic reaction to mesh, such as the Bard 3d mesh or a polypropylene mesh? I have heard of an immune inflammatory reaction which can be caused by the mesh. I am worried about the possible inflammation that can occur if I have a mesh implant for my hernia.
I went through Chemotherapy about 14 years ago for Colon cancer. I was in a 1% member of the population who is allergic to intravenous chemotherapy, and so after about a month of feeling like I was being embalmed alive, and having bad neuropathy, and getting morphine to kill the pain, the Oncologist then switched me to Chemo pills instead of intravenous chemotherapy. the liquid chemo (intravenous ) was Pure Hell. So now maybe you can see why I am so paranoid about an allergic reaction to polypropylene.
My hernia is causing me stress, and worry about getting it fixed. I feel as if this is my 9/11, and the eventual path to my ultimate demise, with the possible horror of multiple revision surgeries. Anyway, I am just trying to research the best option for me. I am about 12 pounds over weight, and have had my hernia for about 2.5 months now. Anyway, it would be nice to hear back from an expert on this, or someone who has some valuable information. Thank you.
