inguinal Hernia – Right side (found due to bulging )
-small size
– first was size of golf ball after swimming in February 2024
– Pushed back in and never came the size again was just bulging..
– No pain
Shouldice said I have hernia on both sides but left side might never be issue but can fix it…I don’t like that they cut cremaster muscle. Then looked at Desarda but need to fly out to Florida from Canada and cost is about 5 to 7 k depending on number of Hernias
My Question
1. What would happen if I just leave it? Some say strangulation ect but how often does that occur? If you check your Hernia everytime you go to washroom wouldn’t you catch it before it happens?
2. How did they repair Hernias before surgery?
3. I saw some post on reddit where people never touched it for 10+ years and nothing happend
4. Isn’t the benefit of waiting that some new techniques will come out
5. General Surgeon said they can repair open plug and patch, but it seems like plug is not really done these days as it causes issues
I am just wondering if the golden standard of mesh / fixing hernia is just something ppl say as theres a low change of complications? I am 35 I still carry groceries and sometimes other things with no issues…

1. If anyone offers plug and patch, run. It’s the worst choice for hernia repair. There are so many better options.
2. Watchful waiting is considered safe if you have no or minimal symptoms with your groin hernia. 0.2%/yr risk of incarceration in study with 10-yr followup. And ⅔ chance you’ll end up with a hernia repair in the next 10 years, based on the same study.

Thanks is it possible for one to have Hernia from a young age but never noticed it? For me only reason I noticed it was after swimming one day it was size of golf ball…but If I never saw that I would have never noticed …

Yes went and they said a Hernia on right side small to medium size and very small one of left side…Also said left side might never ever cause issue but If I wanted they can repair both same visit day 1 first side day 2 second side but I hesitate due to them cutting cremaster muscle…I am 35 if I was 65 would have no issue with them cutting cremaster muscle
