2 Q’s, Out of Pocket and Vigorous Activity
Been living with hernia for several years with little impact. Talked w/ a hernia surgeon last year told me if not impacting life greatly, leave it be. Getting larger now and I got a bit of a scare yesterday after lifting very heavy. Was anxious about the weight, but form was spot on and had no issues. Hours later though, large bulge came out. I put it back and heard lots of gurgling. That was new. Then did the worst thing and turned to internet where seems every link told me I was at risk of imminent death.
Played phone tag with a hernia surgeon today and am looking at three no insurance cash surgery centers in Maryland, Oklahoma and Nevada and just starting to look at Euro places.
Questions, has anyone used any of these no insurance surgery centers, what was your experience? Not sure if I am able to name doctors here. Anyone have a success story traveling out of US.
Also, if anyone is very fit or a trainer or coach, what was your experience/ time table like for resuming regular activity. I train with kettlebells 3-4 hours/ week, swim, sprint and teach a a variety of yoga classes. Besides not wanting to give that up, I also rely on it for another form of income. If I am not teaching, I am not getting paid.
I am resigned to getting this done now. Reading up on mesh or no mesh, so would welcome your experiences there and will read more of the forum. One Dr in Nevada very anti mesh, one in MD uses it. Wasn’t clear about OK center. I feel like this should be a routine thing for a surgeon who has done thousands of these, but the post op problems I have been reading about have me scared half to death. Appreciate finding this forum and seeing not all horrible news.
