Never says what type of tissue repair he had. I’m guessing Shouldice.

That must mean the abdominal wall is still strong enough after a mesh removal to do a strong tissue repair that will last. Dai Greene went back to competing.

You may be correct, as that was apparently the case in the past when she treated the likes of Alan Shearer and Michael Owen, though they retired in 2006 and 2013 respectively. I believe she is well into her 70s now, so I’m not sure if she still works for the big football clubs across Europe anymore.

Whilst modifying her technique vs the traditional Shouldice, my understanding is she cuts the cremaster and genital nerves still, unlike the other well known German surgeons commonly mentioned on here in the past, before the site had the disastrous revamp that knackered it.

I don’t understand why Dr Towfigh hasn’t just scrapped it and relaunched the original. Although basic and with a regular troll latterly, it was so much better than what it’s become, hence few of the old members posting anymore. Was it done intentionally…? 🤔

Thanks for posting Good Intentions, interesting story. I’ve scoured the web and can’t find any info re who operated or where he had surgery either. Good old General Data Protection Regulation! I guess we’ll have to wait and see if he ever mentions it on his social media accounts and it makes the news.

Like you say, it’ll be interesting to see how he does for the rest of the season.

He scored yesterday and seemed pretty happy. Of course, when I had mesh inside I felt good while active. It was the after-effects of physical activity that were intolerable. Time will tell.

Did you have mesh removed? What type of repair did you have and what type do you have now?

I had most of two pieces of Bard SoftMesh removed in late 2017. It was originally implanted in late 2014 for repair of a right-side direct hernia. The surgeon said that he found something on the left side so he did it also. It’s not uncommon, bilateral mesh implantation is popular in the hernia repair field.

A small piece of mesh was left behind on the right side during explantation because it was too entangled with the critical structures of the spermatic cord. It has been an irritant for years, sometimes severe, but has become more of just a mild annoyance over the last couple of years. Sometimes I feel very good and healthy, other times I feel the soreness of the mesh irritation and re-realize that I have not returned to full health. I still carry some of the burden of mesh-based hernia repair.

You can follow the publications in Hernia Journal and see that very little progress has been made in solving the problems with mesh. New studies of the same old problems. The materials have not changed at all.

Here is a new study of fixation methods. The information available to the surgeons to make better decisions is poor. And access to data is typically hidden behind a paywall.

Thanks. Where did you get it done? Did you get a Shouldice repair after?

I just had a laparoscopic hernia mesh placed on the left. Bard 3D max mesh.

I should have opted for open but the surgeon wanted to use the scope because bilateral was suspected. I’m glad it’s only one. I thought mesh might be better for lifting & climbing at work so I was scared Shouldice would break in time.

However I hate the mesh. If it becomes a problem I’ll have it taken out. That seems expensive and not easy to find a surgeon to do it.

I think as the Robotic methods become more popular than mesh extraction will too.

I would bet that he went to Dr. Muschaweck. She is the surgeon the big clubs use for abdominal surgery.

As per La Nacion newspaper, it seems the surgery was done by Chris Hughes, Ernest Schilders and Daniel Martinez in London.
