Bilateral inguinal Shouldice recovery?

I’m a healthy 50 year old male, non smoker, 24 bmi, recently diagnosed with bilateral hernias. I’m concerned about mesh, and want a Shouldice repair, done by a specialist who has performed thousands. Naturally I’m nervous.

Everyone is different but what kind of recovery can I reasonably expect given I will have incisions on both sides?
