LindaS on June 2, 2016 at 7:38 pmHello, can someone please let me know of a good hernia specialist in MN? I have tried to get someone to help me with my groin pain in a targeted area since last July-post colonoscopy. I have been to a pelvic floor specialist and many acupuncture apps to no avail for relief. Most of my symptoms lean toward an Inguinal hernia, but the Dr.’s I have seen said no ..due to an MRI and. CAT scan results showing nothing. It is deep pain in a target area and I want it checked further. Thank you so much.

Call Dr Archana Ramaswamy. She’s at the U of MN.

One last thing, the hysterectomy/fibroid surgery was in 2005. This pain I am having now started the day of my colonoscopy on June 30, 2015.

Thank you for your reply. I have gone through the Pelvic Floor Center here in Mpls and had 3tests there also. Manometry. Defectography. EMG. I do recall bearing down for these. All three were normal, although the Dr stated she did find tenderness along the right pelvic floor, caused by spasm.
I have not had an Ultrasound yet, but have an appt with a General Surgeon tomorrow.
Regarding prior surgeries, I did have a hysterectomy and several fibroids were removed. One was grapefruit size and was also in my right quadrant. I did discuss this with my Gyn and she did not think that was the problem. Everything was normal from her exam and I do not have endometriosis. I have not heard of round ligament pain and it was not discussed. However, the acupuncturist I am seeing said my Inguinal ligament is very hard on the right side.
If I can’t find a hernia Specialist locally, I will contact you via email, as you suggested. Thank you, again! -

LindaS,
Thanks for your message and joining us on HerniaTalk. Off the top of my head I do not a have specific recommendation in Minnesota. I hope one of the other surgeons might. Here is a link to the American Hernia Society Specialist page. http://americanherniasociety.org/find-a-hernia-specialist/
Depending on your location in MN there are a variety of folks who have a special interest in hernia surgery here. I would also be happy to discuss with you online and see you just outside Indianapolis if you wish. http://www.indyhernia.com (website not complete but can contact us through the website via email)
I see you have had many tests but have you had your surgeon do an ultrasound with you bearing down at any point? Also have you had any surgery in the low abdomen/pelvic area. During any of your studies have you been directed to valsalva / squeeze your abdomen like having a BM?
I actually identified an inguinal hernia this way in the office this week that had been missed by our radiology department because they did not make the patient valsalva.
Have you discussed the possibility of “round ligament pain” with your Gyn? Had Gyn surgery or Endometriosis?
Thanks! Hope we can help you out.
