From the small amount I’ve read about the new degradable mesh, it seems it’s designed to start breaking down @ six months after surgery, and be more or less completely deteriorated or absorbed by @ 18 months. (Hard to phrase what I’m trying to say). Anyway, my question is: based on this time-line, can we assume that for those of us with standard mesh implanted, the healing process (or whatever you want to call it) should be basically complete by six months, and complete by about a year?

The repair is probably as strong as it going to get at this point.
    Slowly increase your activities.

Thank you. I have the standard mesh repair, and it’s been @ 11 months-I was wondering if I can consider the repair complete, or if I should continue to be cautious.

For an inguinal hernia most of the healing is done by 6 months.
For a ventral or incisional hernia you need strength for years and a permanent mesh should be used.
The degradable meshes have not been studied long enough to know how long they last.
    Regards.
