One of the members (think it was Pinto) recently posed that question. Well, I am faced with a second IH, which is at least as big as my first one, which was repaired @ 9 months ago. I’m trying to decide what to do. So to repeat the question- If an inguinal hernia, new or old, is fairly large, and might possibly be getting bigger, isn’t the only solution getting it repaired as soon as possible? It seems obvious that the larger an IH gets, the more complex the surgery will be, whatever technique you decide on.

Dr. Towfigh–I had a fairly small inguinal hernia which has in the last year gotten much larger. What is the female equivalent of scrotal extension?

I agree with you. An enlarging inguinal hernia is a good reason to undergo repair, as larger hernias have higher risk for recurrence after repair than smaller hernias.

Large hernia means scrotal extension of the hernia.
