  • Dr David Chen – IMPOSSIBLE!

Posted by Luke on June 30, 2020 at 8:50 am

I’ve been calling and emailing Dr David Chen’s office for 2 weeks now trying to simply find out what type of pure tissue repairs he does, if any, and if he focuses more on mesh or no mesh. His office continues to refuse to say anything about what kind of work he does. They seem “clueless” saying he does a whole bunch of different things but can’t say what types of repair. It seems getting such a basic question answered or speaking with a somewhat compitent staff member seems to be impossible with this doctor.

IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT TYPE OF SPECIALIST DR CHEN IS (NO MESH VS MESH) AND IF ANY PURE WHAT TYPES OF PURE TISSUE HE OFFERS PLEASE KET ME KNOW. OR IF YOU HAVE A BETTER SUGGESTION IN CONTACTING HIS OFFICE. I WILL BE SO VERY GRATEFUL!

Dr muschaweck said he does tailored pure tissue repair so there are few that do that. Worth checking him out but I too have reached out to his office months ago and no response and people there are beyond rude. Horrible indeed.

    My $0.02:

If you aren’t able to get any answers to your questions despite putting in a lot of effort, then you should look for a different doctor. Yes. Surgeons are busy. But, a caring surgeon can and should be available to answer your questions before undergoing a serious operation, which brings with it a number of risks. The level of communication you are getting now is probably reflective of the level of communication you will get after surgery if you go with Dr Chen.

Don’t take offense, but email is too easy. A paper letter will be unique and show that you’re willing to put the effort in to get what you’re looking for. Anybody can sit down and peck out a few words in an email message, hit “send”, and wait. This message here took me more effort just to log-in than actually write the message.

I know people that barely use email anymore because their inbox gets filled with spam. They only read messages from people that they know.

Try sending a letter. Front offices deal with a high volume of referrals and little else. They aren’t really trained in how to deal with people like you, and they probably, honestly, have little idea of what you’re talking about. Pure tissue, mesh, Shouldice, Lichtenstein, etc., means nothing to them.

A letter can be passed along to Dr. Chen, and if it’s well-written, will probably be read by him. Include your phone number in the letter so that he can call or text easily if decides to respond. Be polite and don’t insult the people that you’ve been dealing with.

Don’t try to fight the system. Work around it, and make it easy for people to give you the answers that you’re looking for.

Any reason why you absolutely want his opinion? Unless he is the only doctor around that is…so he doesn’t have a website with his bio and focus?
