  • Hydrocele a year after removal?

A buddy of mine thinks he’s developed a hydrocele almost a year out of bilateral mesh 3dmax removal. I’ve never heard of developeling one after a year point almost. An ultrasound bilateral would tell what’s going on without a doubt and I doubt a hydrocele but what are good intentions, watchful, Dr. Towfigh etc. I’ve been on this forum for 6 years and know my stuff but give some opinions and it would help out gratefully!

Usually not. Larger hydroceles classically are checked with a small flashlight against the scrotum. It will show a water sac.

Such a coincidence mention of hydrocele.

I noticed yesterday one testicle, hernia side, was heavy and a bit uncomfortable. The testicle looked a bit larger than the other.

Is there a good way of self diagnosing?

I’m unclear as to why hydrocele is considered. But the work up involves figuring out the story first (what symptoms, when did they start), and then a good physical examination. From there, the surgeon should be able to determine if this is a hernia related issue (MRI pelvis) or a urologic problem (scrotal ultrasound).
