My Dr Kang Hernia Repair – 1 Year On
Last year (Sept 2023) I went over to South Korea for a bilateral indirect hernia repair by Dr Kang.
The whole process was logged in my diary at the time at https://herniatalk.com/forums/topic/my-bilateral-hernia-repair/ and I don’t plan to go over it all again, other than to say the process was smooth and hassle free. Even though I unwittingly chose to go during a major South Korean holiday (thanks wikipedia!) I always felt I was being treated with the utmost professionalism, not scraping by with just a skeleton staff.
So how are things 1 year on?
I was 60 years old when I had the repair so my high intensity workout routines were already a distant memory. This meant that I was perfectly happy taking things slower than maybe a guy in his 30s or 40s would. I believe that by building up to my usual lifestyle slowly probably helped me get back to normal quickly and with zero fuss.
I said at the time that there was no pain. With hindsight, it was probably more accurate to say that there was no pain AS LONG AS I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING STUPID! Take it easy, don’t rush to get back to say, heavy lifting and I was truly pain free. For a self confessed chicken, that’s a big deal!
As time progressed, I simply don’t think about the hernia. It just isn’t an issue any more, although I have caught myself “protecting” myself if I sneeze! That will maybe take a bit longer to grow out of. The scars are fading and I’m not aware of any numbness in the area.
Overall, Dr Kang gave me back the activity and lifestyle I was used to before my hernia appeared, and for that I’m truly thankful. My only regret is that I didn’t get the treatment sooner!
So guys, thanks for reading my rants and I wish you all a pain free solution to your own health problems. Thank you and goodbye
